Can you tell us something about studying medicine in Serbia?

Studying medicine in Serbia is actually quite rewarding. We have a lot of doctors and professors that take a lot of time out of their day just to help us with projects and with furthering our education. I personally really like a lot of doctors because they’re very free and liberal and they like to, you know, just give you the reality of what is it like being in a hospital, how are you supposed to treat a patient and even what to expect from a patient. Not everybody’s going to be in the best mood, not everybody’s going to have the best day and you’re going to see all sides of these types of personalities. So they really give you a different look on life and a different way to approach things, like “okay, this is reality, and this is how I need to learn and how to deal with it every day in the future.” So I really like that aspect. And even in studies, you know, you have professors who are absolutely fantastic at what they do and they just really take you to the core of what you need to know and what you need for the future. So that’s what I really like.

What is it like living in Serbia?

Living in Serbia is actually just really great. You have a lot of places to go and just have fun. If you’re young and you really like to go to concerts, to clubs, to coffee shops or just being out, it’s really great. There are a lot of places, and the people are very nice. They love to interact and they are always just big-hearted. Even elderly people, they just love to give a lot from themselves. As a foreigner, I was accepted and just always given so much from the people here.

Do Serbian people speak English?

Yes. Actually, it’s quite good. The younger generation obviously is better. They more or less have a slight accent, but their English is perfect, they can understand you very well and they’ll try and help you. Even the older generation, they will stop and help you as much as they can with their broken English. You won’t really have much problem navigating or finding your way to go somewhere.

What’s your favourite tourist destination in Serbia?

There are a couple. I really like Kopanik and Jastrebac, especially for hiking or for skiing. Also Fruška Gora and even Avala here in Belgrade and these other parks inside Belgrade are really, really nice to go to. So those are my favorite destinations.
