Accommodation

Whether you’re planning to study, work, or simply explore the country, finding the right place to live is a key factor in making your stay comfortable and enjoyable. For students, securing accommodation should be one of the first steps in your planning process, ideally arranged prior to your arrival in Serbia.

Renting an apartment in Serbia

Renting an apartment is a popular choice for those planning to stay in Serbia for an extended period. Accommodation costs in Serbia can vary widely depending on the location, size, and condition of the property. For students, the most affordable option is often sharing a flat with others. In smaller towns, rent for a shared flat can start from around EUR 150 per person, excluding utilities. In contrast, private accommodation in the centre of Belgrade can be significantly more expensive, with rent for a one-bedroom flat reaching up to EUR 1200 per month. For those willing to live outside the city centre, renting a flat in Belgrade’s can cost anywhere from EUR 300 per month. These prices may vary depending on the area and the amenities provided in the flat.

The best and safest way to rent an apartment in Serbia is by hiring a licensed real estate agent. A licensed agent ensures a higher level of legal security and helps minimise the risks associated with illegal mediation activities. You can verify the legitimacy of a real estate agent by checking their registration on the official website of the Ministry of Internal and Foreign Trade. By entering the agency’s name or serial number, you can confirm that they are properly registered and follow the necessary legal guidelines. The register also contains all the data regarding the agency and information about agents who work there.

Before making any payments, always ensure that you sign a rental contract and read it thoroughly. The contract should include all the agreed-upon terms, and it’s important to check for any misinformation or unagreed clauses.

STUDENT DORMS FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

If you are coming to Serbia through a student exchange programme, check if it is possible to book a room in student dormitories through that programme. Please keep in mind that there is a selection process involved and that there are usually many students who want to live in dormitories. For more information on student dormitories, visit the websites of student centres in university towns.
