Visa and residence permit

Citizens of many countries, including most European countries, can enter Serbia without visas for up to 90 days. To check whether you need a visa, visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.

In case you need a visa to enter Serbia please get informed with the following:

Before applying for a student visa to study in Serbia, students must first be accepted into one of the available study programmes. Once accepted, students can submit their visa application to the nearest Embassy or Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia. For a list of embassies and consulates, please visit this link. The embassy or consulate will assist with the visa process after students have been accepted into a programme.

Students who are coming to take an entrance exam should apply for a short-term (entrance) visa. The deadline for a decision on the visa application is usually 15 days from the submission date, but it can be extended up to a maximum of 30 days if there are justified reasons for a longer decision period. Once a student is accepted and enroled in a study programme in Serbia, they can apply for a Type D visa (visa for residence/study). After receiving this visa, they can apply for a residence permit. If granted, the residence permit will be issued for up to three years, depending on the individual case.

Please note that students must extend their short-term visas upon arrival in Serbia and apply for a residence/study permit after enrolment. Foreign students must reapply for a residence visa annually.

Register after arrival

Every person who is not the citizen of the Republic of Serbia should register its arrival in Serbia at the closest police station. If you are staying in a hotel, this will be done by the hotel staff, while if you are staying in private accommodation you should register the stay in the nearest police station within 24 hours of arrival.
